Thierry Chocolaterie - Vancouver, BC

We've wanted to review this place since we first tried their macarons back in September and on a lazy Friday, the Piglets finally made the trek out to try the rest of Thierry's wares.

It's raining, it's too cold to sit outside and the tables are packed inside. A table opens up after a few minutes wait, Mr. Piglet sits down and I go up to the counter to order to my hearts content. I can't decide between two things so I decide to order both. I promise myself I'll go running tomorrow to balance it out... LOL. I love lying to myself.

Chocolate Caramel Cadeau - $5.75
  • It's an architectural beauty - just look at it!
  • chocolate mousse has smooth texture, the chocolate cake is small but packed with flavor and there's sugar crystals at the bottom to add that nice crunch factor
  • they list it as having caramel sauce but I found it more like a caramel mousse, which cut the heavy chocolate really well

Pain Au Chocolat - $3.95
  • I know what you're thinking - "$3.95 for a croissant??!!??" - but this croissant is THE BEST chocolate croissant I've ever had
  • it's light, fluffy, buttery and the dark chocolate within has the perfect balance of bitter to sweetness of the pastry
  • Hint: get it heated - that melty chocolate within... *drool*

House Made Ginger Soda - $3.95
  • If you love ginger, then you will LOVE this drink as it is super gingery - you can even see the floaties of ginger!
  • a bit pricey for a pop but it's REAL ginger and made in house so worth it

Prosciutto - $8.75
  • Manchego cheese, extra virgin olive oil, tomato spread
  • the bread is crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside which we both enjoy but that's it - the rest of this is just a regular sandwich and boring
  • at $8.75, this is extremely overpriced
Americano - $2.75
  • only espresso-based coffee available here - no regular coffee
  • "Strong but good" - Mr. Piglet
  • It's just coffee, no need for a picture

The Piglets do recommend coming here but with some stipulations:
A) concentrate on the desserts, forget the other food
B) expect that it'll be pricey - bring your wallets!
And...
C) indulging once in a while is ok - to come here all the time would be ludicrous

Pros:
Excellent croissants
Desserts generally good and absolutely beautiful
Fast service

Cons:
Pricey
Uncertain availability - macarons are always sold out or only 1 flavor available
Self serve
Cramped sitting space
Most likely have to wait for a table
Sandwiches were only ok and very overpriced
