Macaron Mania Part 3!
Everytime we've gone to Thierry, they've been pretty barren in terms of macarons - maybe one or two flavors available at best. On this rainy Saturday, I walked in expecting the display to be empty but hurrah! Several flavors available!
Beautiful packaging...
7-pack assorted - $13.45
They are also available as singles for $1.95 or a 12-pack for $21.95. The macarons from here are larger in size with a denser ganache filling for some but then others, such as the lychee and praline, had a softer filling akin to buttercream icing. In any case, there is a thick layer of the filling in between the cookies which themselves are chewier and heavier in texture than other macarons we'd tried before. The praline was quite disappointing as it was just simply sweet and there was not enough pistachio in the chocolate pistachio - it just tasted like chocolate. After much debate in the Piglet household, the following were our favorites:
Lychee
The flavoring was very good and it even comes with a small piece of lychee instead. The only gripe I had with this flavor was the filling was very soft, almost icing like, and much softer than the other flavors (exception praline)
Gianduja
The hazelnut chocolate combination gets to me every single time!Lemon, passion fruit and lime also hold their own - there is a nice balance to the sweet and tangy flavors. Overall, they were larger but also denser and chewier than the other macarons we've tried. They are not the delicate cookies the Piglets expected and although some would not like their heavier texture, we thought they were still tasty. We'd order them again and gift them as well, especially with the beautiful packaging it comes in. Bon appetite!
Pros:
- Beautiful packaging
- Friendly efficient service
- Larger in size
- Moderate pricing (for macarons of course)
Cons:
- Chewier and denser in texture than other macarons
- Constantly sold out or not enough flavors to choose from
