Edible Canada at the Market (Canadian Bacon Take Out Window) - Vancouver, BC

So what's this about a bacon takeout window????  My god!  They have ice cream, banana bread, poutine, hot dog, tacos and more!  I think I've died (probably from obesity) and gone to pork heaven!  Although Monkey and I are here for the brunch, I couldn't help but be taken in by their logo: "Because Everything is Better with Bacon".  So true...  Must save room after brunch for something from the window!
So we've had the brunch, taken a walk in the Granville Island Public Market and we've done a loop back around because I insist on trying items from THE window.  I'm still full but I'm cramming it in anyways!  I'll do a 10 K run tomorrow to burn it off....  LOL.  Who am I kidding?  BTW, LOVE the picture of the pig...

Bella Gelateria Bacon Chocolate Gelato - $5.50
Who knew that you could make a bacon based ice cream???  Everyone I spoke to was apprehensive, they didn't know what to think...  How could it be good?  Well, ladies and gents, it is THAT GOOD.  Rich chocolate gelato with flecks of bacon within....  Click on the photo and check out the pieces of bacon in the chocolate!  There is no greasiness or odd aftertaste - just smoky bacon with a darker chocolate flavor.  A great balance between the sweet and salty...  This gelato has done two things: made me a true believer of the chocolate-bacon combination and given me the overwhelming desire to visit Bella Gelateria - for another day and another post indeed!

"To Die For" Bacon Banana Bread with Whipped Maple Butter - $6
I can see the big chunks of bacon in it already!  So exciting! This thing is packed with flavor - there's tons of sweet banana and salty bacon in every bite.  The whipped maple butter is unnecessary as it's drowned out by the other strong flavors and the bread is already moist enough, even a bit on the greasy side, so you don't need the butter to provide moisture.  My favorite part of this bread is the salty crunchy top.  I'm not quite sure how they do it but I started to save it for last.

There are other items on their menu that I must try and so I will be back for sure (again, I wish I had another stomach.  Damn my human physiology!).  If you are any kind of bacon lover, you will definitely give this window a try.  It's open only for the summer so be sure to give it a shot before that.  A true tribute to Canadian bacon indeed.  Bon appetite!

(P.S. - If you can't make it out yet, try my recipe for Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies to hold you over!)

Pros:
  • Great tribute to bacon goods - and also tasty!
  • Moderate pricing for the food items
  • Free parking available
Cons:
  • The birds won't leave us alone - you basically get your food and sit on the benches but the birds fly all around, hounding you for crumbs!  I almost got bombed...  Aiya.
  • Probably not the healthiest - best not to make it a habit.  LOL.
  • Free parking is difficult to find during prime hours and weekends
