Off the Wagon - Vancouver, BC

I'm walking around the Main St/Thornton Park Farmer's Market and I see this at the end - a big red bus that's serving some kicking tacos.  Although it's 3 in the afternoon, I technically missed lunch so this was the opportunity to have a pre-dinner snack.  Watch out tacos, I'm a comin!
Food trucks mainly operate in Downtown Vancouver but Off the Wagon is a supporter of the farmer's markets and now that I've spotted them on a Wednesday afternoon, I'm going in for the kill.  Off the Wagon supports local farmers (hence their presence at a farmer's market) and sustainable food choices.  Those are some noble noteworthy causes but I'm here for the delicious tacos!

A few minutes later, I get my order...

Pastor - 2 tacos for $7.25
Rotisserie Pork with Pina or Tomato Pico de Gallo (I chose the pineapple salsa)
Oh, pastor tacos have a real place in my heart...  And this one is no different.  Succulent pieces of roasted pork covered in a delicious pineapple salsa.  Not too moist and the spices are very savory...  a great combination of meat to veggie.  I'm glad I spritzed some of the lime on top to give it that citrus burst.  You can taste the corn in the flour tortillas - isn't it funny when you eat something that isn't the processed stuff you usually eat and you can taste the difference?  I usually go for the mass-produced big company stuff but no more!  Soft corn tortillas made locally and fresh from now on!  If you do make it to this food truck, definitely order the Pastor.

Fresh Homemade Chorizo
It's good but such a sloppy mess!  Even with two corn flour tortillas beneath it, the chorizo juices seems to soak right through and making it impossible to eat it in one piece.  I ended up having to scoop it with my fingers like eating Indian food traditional styles.  The pork is tender and has the right amount of spices but maybe a bit too salty - not too spicy though and and the tomato salsa tastes fresh.  I think it needed more of the guacamole to balance out the saltiness and the pineapple salsa tasted better than the tomato version but either way, still tasty.

The tacos here are tasty and I really like that fact that they're made with local, sustainable, ethical and healthy ethos in mind.  Food that not only comforts the body but also the mind and soul...  I do admit they are on the pricey side for a smaller portion but the Pastor with the pineapple salsa was delicious and I'd come back for that.  If I were a hungry man though, two of these tacos would not be enough so you might wanna go for the combo of 3 for $10.25 and even then I wouldn't guarantee a full tummy.  Best you eat something else with it if you're looking for a filling meal without breaking the bank.  Bon appetite!

Pros:
  • Delicious tacos and toppings - Pastor!
  • Made with local and sustainable ingredients
  • Made fresh to order - no heating lamps here!
Cons:
  • On the pricey side
  • Smaller portions
  • Cash only
