The aroma only gets better when you step inside... It's small inside, just a few tables, but I don't need to dine in. I just want my meat to go! Oh the sweet smell of barbecuing meats...
The owner wants you to get it straight: there is one and only one location for HK BBQ Master. Apparently there were some impostors popping up all around the Lower Mainland so he wanted to make it clear that this was the only real deal. He also wanted to charge me for taking this photo - I laughed and quickly ran off with my goodies. So what goodies did I get?
BBQ Duck - $11.00 (1/2 duck)
I'm not a big BBQ duck fan as the meat is generally quite tough or the pieces are too fatty but the duck here is actually quite good. It's got a nice crispier skin than I've had at most other places and the meat is still tender and moist. It also comes with this clear yellow dipping sauce that's a bit sweet and totally goes really well with the duck. Yum!
Honey BBQ Pork - $7.80
Look at the ring of flavor on the meat! Even though I chose a leaner cut, the meat is still super moist down to the delicious delicious end pieces. Sweet but not too much and just packed full of honey bbq flavor. Yup, definitely up there in terms of the best BBQ pork I've had.
Crispy Roasted Pork - $8.99/lb
Oh that roasted crispy skin... *drool* No one can do it quite like the Master here because it's super crispy while the meat remains moist and flavorful. Just a quick dunk into their sweetened soy and that's all you need to drift away into pork heaven... *sigh*Yes, there is no better Chinese BBQ. Period. Just ask the guy with cleaver.
Pros:
- THE BEST Chinese BBQ in the Lower Mainland
- Big portions for take-out
- Moderate pricing
- The best roasted pork out there - the crackling skin can't be beat!
- Free parking (typical terrible parking lot though)
- Cash only
- Small sitting area
- Not a lot of vegetable options - but then again, why would you come here for veggies?
