Nu is brought to you by the Kambolis Restaurant Group, the same owners of C Restaurant and Raincity Grill. Mr. Piglet and I have been to C Restaurant before but that was seafood fine dining whereas Nu Greek is as the title suggests - Greek food. We're on our way to the Whitecaps game (HELLO BECKHAM!) and running 20 late so we need something quick and slightly portable just in case the walk-and-eat is needed. We've been to Nu Greek's neighbours so we might as well give this place a shot too. In we go...
A small place that is BOILING hot! How can people sit in here?? Oh, yeah, there aren't any tables outside and nary an empty seat. Hm, maybe the walk-and-eat is the way to go... What should we get???
Oh, lamb... how delicious you can be when cooked well but unfortunately, it was not so. The lamb was quite chewy and even had a slight gamey taste - how does that work? Instead of the regular pita, Mr. Piglet got sold on the new oregano pita and he kind of wished he hadn't gone for it. The flavor was good but the texture was off - dry and a bit mealy and he much preferred the regular pita over it.A small place that is BOILING hot! How can people sit in here?? Chicken Souvlaki Pita - $7.00
There is A LOT of pita to get through before you can get to the good stuff so the first few bites were just pita and it was a lot more salty than I expected. But once you get to the fillings, the pita is actually quite good. The filling composed of lettuce, tomatoes, onions and tzatziki was a bit more mild than I would like so it needed the salt of the pita. Surprisingly the chicken was more moist and tender than the lamb. Overall, it was not bad but as I looked to my right, I couldn't help but long for a Japadog or Viet Sub.Not a bad dining choice but it didn't blow our socks off either. The only reaction we could have to the food was just a shrugging of the shoulders - on a street full of pitas, shwarmas and other portable delights, the Piglets probably wouldn't come back but we wouldn't discourage people from eating here either (keep in mind that there are tons of better Greek food as well). Take it or leave it!
Just a lil sumthin sumthin for my piggy readers... Strike a pose!
Pros:
- Cash, debit and credit card accepted
- Made to order
- Healthy and milk-free options available
- Friendly service
- We appreciated that the pitas were wrapped in a way so there was minimal dripping and dropping
- Food was only ok
- Limited seating - only chairs available outdoors and really hot at the few tables inside
- Slower service - only one person working???
