I step inside and I'm wonderfully transported to French Canadiana? It's small but warm and inviting. A nice sitting area...
They're making fresh donuts as we speak. So old school and too cool! The lady making the donuts also works behind the counter and she is super nice as she packs up a variety pack for me.
One Dozen (13) - $6.25
I love that they're wonderfully fresh - a bit crispy on the outside and warm and almost gooey on the inside. By gooey I mean so soft that the donuts stick to the roof of my mouth while I'm hoofing them down. I had gotten a variety of flavors but some of them taste too similar, save for a bit of differently colored icing and very slightly different flavoring. My favorite is the Grandma's Lemon since it's the only one with a pop of flavor that distinguishes it from the next donut. Love the lemon filling! My second favorite is the cinnamon sugar since it reminds me of a better version of the mini donuts I got as a kid at the carnival. Memories...
Outpost Mini Donuts are much better than your run-of-the-mill mini donut truck with a larger variety of flavors. And when they're made fresh? Fuhgeddabout it. They're a cute little snack that's perfect if you're in the Steveston area but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here just to get some. So come here if you're in the area but you don't need to go out of your way - it is after all just a mini donut. Bon appetite!
Pros:
- Handmade and fresh with a really distinct texture
- Cash, credit and debit accepted
- Friendly inviting service
Cons:
- Some flavors are too similar - their specials are the way to go but not all available and you don't know what's available until you're there
- Not innovative like other donut places - the donuts are cute but the flavors are a bit plain
