Tomahawk Restaurant - North Vancouver, BC

Tomahawk Restaurant

After a long morning of hiking (more like lost on a mountain), our hiking buddy suggested this long standing monument to food in North Van since 1926. Known for its collection of West Coast Indian artifacts, teetering on the edge of closure due to tax issues, and the Lower Mainland's best breakfast: The Yukon. Five slices of bacon, two country style eggs, golden-griddled hash browns and two slices of Klondike toast. The only problem? No one ordered it! I've wasted my life. Instead, everyone opted for a burger but the burgers weren't bad either. Made from organic beef and served with some odd toppings. The Skookum Chief Burger has a wiener on it?!?

I had the Chief Simon Baker and, I'm so sad to admit this, but I've never tasted beef in a burger like I did here. Burgers nowadays are so processed, diluted, over-cooked and mishandled that the taste of the meat is usually missing, lost in a sea of toppings, but here, at the Tomahawk, I tasted beef in a burger like beef should be in a burger. Put some perfectly sauteed mushrooms, that amazing Yukon-style bacon and cheddar on top and you've got the perfect finish to a nice long-weekend Monday afternoon. I'll get you next time Yukon breakfast!
