Japadog
What started as a single humble hot dog stand on Smithe with a fresh outtake on the tubesteak has now ballooned into a 3 stands in total, a storefront on Robson and rumor has it that there is also a stand in the Canadian Tire parking lot in Richmond. My poison? The Oroshi Dog - a pork bratwurst topped with Daikon radish, soy dressing and green onions. Like I said, the swine is divine! I will never have another hot dog from another hot dog stand EVER AGAIN! My fellow piglet had the Terimayo, which is another crowd favorite, topped with Japanese mayo and seaweed flakes and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Goodbye ketchup and mustard!
My next try I think will be the Okonomi, a pork bratwurst topped with bonito flakes. At the Robson location, they serve fries shaken with different flavors. I have tried the garlic and the butter/soy flavor but people, go there for the dogs! Just do it. DO IT! And if I can't convince you, check out Eat St on the Food Network or Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations, both having given the thumbs up for these hotdog GODS. And if that doesn't do it, ICE CUBE ate here. Check yo self before you wreck yo self.
side note...there's a japadog in richmond....
