Meat and Bread - Vancouver, BC

Meat and Bread - Vancouver, BC

Meat? Check. Bread? Check. What else do you need?????

It has long been an obsession of mine to try this place. They've been featured in the Globe and Mail, Vancouver Magazine, Monocle, Scout Magazine and a host of websites as the new kid on the block helping to revolutionize the food of Gastown. They boast of man made and hand made delights created fresh daily and I had to see it for myself. The first attempt was thwarted when I arrived on a Sunday afternoon to find that this place is not open on Sundays! ^&*&%$#@! So here we go again, 11 am on a cold morning at Meat and Bread part deux and oh was it worth it! Come close... Closer.... Between you and I, I enjoyed it so much, I took a sandwich to go... Don't judge me.

So what's so great about this place that it's worth visiting? The pork of course! And the pork here is DELICIOUS... I give you the Porchetta!! (Queue the light from the heavens)

Slow roasted pork with crispy skin and an herb filling atop a fresh baked bun. My dear tip to you readers is to ask for extra skin - that soft tender pork melting in your mouth is awesome but when your teeth hit that crispy skin, dude, it takes this sandwich to the next level. Believe me, extra skin at KFC is gross. Extra skin here is a blessing. Vancouver Magazine listed it as one of Vancouver's Best Sandwiches.

What's better than having a pork sandwich? Washing it down with a potato and pork soup and a Carne Asada (slow roasted beef) sandwich. Word.

Jealous? Yeah, I thought so.

My togo bag... it may have contained more than another sandwich... maybe two... and a soup... I disgust myself.
