21 Steps Kitchen and Bar - Whistler, BC

21 Steps Kitchen and Bar - Whistler, BC

The piglets ate out a lot while up in the Great White North and there were some good meals but being Whistler, the piggies' wallets were taking a pounding so when Mama Duck from work said this place was good and at a good price, we had to take a look. It was packed on a Friday night and I'm glad we made a reservation as wait times at 7:30 soared to an hour and half. We stepped into the nice dark ambiance and there was just enough music and background noise to be comfortable and not loud. Hostess quickly seated us and the waiter came by to let us know that the fall dinner special was still on. What was this special you say? $35 for an appie, main entree and a dessert. *KABLOOM* That was the noise my head made when it exploded. Oh man, we're about to take you on a magical carpet ride of food my friends!

First on the card tonight is Garlic Chili Prawns vs. Ahi Tuna with a Side Salad:

vs.

It was close but the Garlic Chili Prawns won it in a split decision. Okay, there was no split decision but the prawns were massive and there were 6 of them! They're so big, I have to call them Mr. Prawns. They came in a garlic soy based sauce with peanuts and crispy wonton pieces. Don't get me wrong, the tuna was good and the salad was a nice refreshing break from the strong flavors but there were 6 Mr. Prawns the size of my fist!

Ding ding! The main event! Wild BC Salmon Filet vs Baby Back Ribs:

Ugh, this decision is so hard! The salmon was cooked perfectly and the sauce was definitely full butter and therefore full flavor while the ribs were fall off the bone tender and the fries were hot and crunchy... This round goes to the ribs with the split decision - those ribs were so perfectly sauced and I'm not sure why they gave us knives cuz those ribs were just fall off the bone tender... I'm salivating as I'm writing... Get me some food Mr. Piggy!

The final fight tonight! Belgian Chocolate Brownie vs. Mud Pie:

No one loses when chocolate and ice cream are present. Everyone wins. Especially Mr. and Miss Piglet.

Our total after two 3 course meals and drinks: under $100. The Two Hungry Piglets are the reigning heavyweights in the UFC - Ultimate Feasting Championship!

Pros:
Great prices (in comparison to everything else in Whistler Village)
Fantastic food
Reservations accepted

Cons:
Long waits without reservations
Poor beer selection
Seating is tight (elbow to elbow when its busy)
Spotty service
