Street Meet - Vancouver, BC

Street Meet's logo:  Meet...  Eat...  Repeat!! - Um, ok!
We visited this truck as part of the Waldorf Hotel's Food Cart Fest and why did we try it?  Simply because the lineup was only 5 persons deep in comparison to the 15 persons deep line for another food cart and 30 min wait for pizza from another.  Is that a bad sign?  Not really because as soon as I finished ordering, there was 15 people behind me and later on in the day, there was a 25+ person line up.  I think we just got lucky and popped in for a visit at the right time.
Now what will we eat....  What do we like?  Pork of course!

Crispy Risotto Balls - $5
Slow braised pork and basil truffle aioli
Risotto is super smooth and creamy and I love the contrast between the crunchy exterior and creamy interior.  Not much pork at all though...  where is the pork?  We could only find a small piece in the centre - I guess this is more about the risotto.  The aioli is a nice tangy accompaniment to the savory risotto.  If you're a risotto lover, you should give this a try.

Pork Belly Bites - $7
Roasted pork belly and agro dolce sauce
Not sure what agro dolce sauce is but here it goes....  tastes like ketchup, a good version of ketchup or sweet and sour sauce.  Meh.  The pork belly on the other hand is surprisingly good because when I took one look at it, I was like 'meh" but the pork is super crispy and delicious.  A bit salty, very crunchy and really packs a punch in flavor.  If you've had Chinese roast pork, you'll appreciate this dish because the crunch is not only on the top but all over.  I preferred this over the risotto balls but that's just me.  Oh, and why do they lay hot items atop a salad/leaves - what's the point since by the time you get to it, all of the leaves are completely mushy and wilted?

Overall, not a bad snack for the Piglets.  We really enjoyed the porkiness of this adventure and we'd probably try other dishes off the menu, including this really delicious looking virgin pomegranate sangria they were serving for the day (hopefully it makes a return?) and there's a Sicilian tiramisu flavoured cannoli with my name on it.  If you're a risotto lover, try the crispy balls and if you like crispy salty fatty pork, give the belly bites a nibble.  Go early or face the long line up...  Bon appetite!

Pros:
  • Sophisticated food from a truck - does that satisfy the price?  We're undecided...
  • Tasty pork belly bites
  • Biodegradable utensils and take out boxes - if you're into that
  • Friendly service
Cons:
  • Long waits during prime dining hours
  • Cash only
  • Can get pricey for a meal
