Not much goes on during a Thursday evening but when I found out there was a small farmer's market that was happening, I thought "maybe". Then when I found out that PazzaRella Pizzeria was going to be there, I immediately dragged Mr. Piglet out with me to take a look. Take me to pizza!
What is PazzaRella? It's Canada's first food truck with a food fired oven (too cool!). Owner Anna's parents are from Naples while owner Sherry comes from Japan where food culture is at a whole other level. What do these two make? Pizza of course! It's not just any ordinary pizza but pizza made with Caputo flour from Naples, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh mozzarella cheese with no preservatives and organic basil, oregano and arugula. The ingredients sound amazing!! Let's eat!!!
Margherita - $7
Fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato sauce, extra virgin olive oil
You can taste the tomatoes in the sauce - remember, pizza sauce is made from TOMATOES. The cheese is super gooey and delicious. Did this come with basil? I have no idea because there's only a few leaves of basil. I think at this price point, this thing should have been covered in basil. The star of this pizza is the crust - chewy, soft and pillowy on the inside with a nice charring on the outside from that awesome wood-fired oven. Every home should have a wood-fired oven. As I'm eating though, the crust becomes soggy in the middle from the sauce. I HATE soggy crust and that's punctuated by my pizza flopping over as I hold it. Bah....
Spicy Salami - $8
Spicy Italian pepperoni, fresh mozzarella, basil, tomato sauce, extra virgin olive oil
Again, the tomatoes come through and is in every bite and the piglets love this. The cheese also doesn't disappoint by being gooey in every single bite. The disappointing part? The soggy crust in the middle and the absence of spicy salami. Mr. Piglet doesn't think the salami is spicy enough but I think the level of spice is fine. I think the problem was there wasn't enough salami to taste! Just a few more slices and this pizza would have been a million times better. Again, the price point should have justified just a few more slices of meat.
Maybe Mr. and I have eaten WAY too much take-out pizza because somehow we walk away unsatisfied. I think if there had been a tad more toppings, we wouldn't have had to have a second meal. The ingredients are unreal and amazing and the pizzas are pretty tasty but if you want a filling meal, I think you'll have to look elsewhere or supplement with something else. Also, eat fast because that crust becomes soggy and floppy in the blink of an eye. Bon appetite but be warned!
