Pho Queen - Richmond, BC

A last minute dinner plan with Mr. Piglet's family and we're really not sure where to go.  Mr. Piglet's mom likes noodles so we just head off in the car to a complex with plenty of eats.  We end up at Pho Queen because we've never been before and what could possibly go wrong with a bowl of pho??
It's empty when we walk in and only the server is eating.  Ahhh....  ok.  Too late now.  He's already spotted us and grabbed menus.  I guess we have to sit down!  (Don't worry, as the night wore on, the place got semi-filled out).  Like I said before, what could possibly go wrong with a bowl of pho??
Pho Queen Special Beef Noodle Soup - $6.00 (small)
"It's good" - Mr. Piglet's mom.  I guess so since she finished it with no problems.  I found there wasn't enough meat but since Mr. Piglet's mom isn't much of a meat eater, she didn't mind.

Rare Steak, Beef Meatball Noodle Soup - $6.50 (large)
Broth was good and noodles were cooked really well but I just wish there were was more beef and meatballs.  The meatballs were cut into little quarters and there must have been a total of maybe 1.5 meatballs in there.  The large size was quite large but it was mostly more noodles and soup.  Bah.

Bun Bo Hue - $7.00 (large)
It must've been good because Mr. Piglet's dad made short order of it - noodles, soup and all.

Grilled Jumbo Prawn and Spring Rolls - $8.50
It sounded so good that Mr. Piglet was so excited to order it despite my suggestions to get the pork chop or chicken.  It arrives and well...  it's tiny!  It said "spring rolls" in the title but there is no plural here - just one spring roll, albeit a good one, but still only one.  ONE prawn split in half and a bowl of rice.  I immediately start laughing at his pitiful portions - I knew it would be bad so I ordered a large noodle so he could have some of my meal.  Overall, a disappointing dish.

This was not a bad meal, save for the single tiny rice dish.  The noodles were tasty and the portion sizes were decent (again with the exception of the rice dish).  We all decide that we would come back for a meal if we were in the area but would definitely stay away from the rice dishes and recommend you do too if you want to avoid disappointment.  Bon appetite!

Oink:
  • Tasty noodle dishes
  • Moderate portion sizes
  • Moderate prices for this kind of food
Doink:
  • Tiny rice dish
  • Cash only
