Mr. Piglet and I are just wandering the city at 9 pm in the rain (just a drizzle, nothing in comparison to the rain we see at home). We've eaten a small meal already but we just wanna go around, see what's open around our hotel and maybe sit down somewhere to get a drink and relax. We walk by a nice place and there seems to be a live jazz band playing (on the top floor in that little opening!) and I recognize the name from somewhere...
I remember now! This place was also featured on Anthony Bourdain's episode of The Layover in San Francisco. It looks nice inside, the music is going and we see some empty seats so Mr and I walk in... Nice place! Really comfy and although we were only going to go for a drink, the small menu looks enticing so we decide to grab another small meal before the night is over (I guess we had dinner so this is supper?). A drink and some dishes and off we go to the races...
America's Cup - $12
Punt e Mes, bourbon, gin, orange bitters, lemon, ginger beer
Wow, this is one stiff drink! Maybe it's just me. Okay, Mr has just confirmed that there's mostly booze and no juice in here. I'll be sipping this for the whole night... and Mr will probably have to finish it off. LOL. I picked this drink for the ginger beer but it's all about the bourbon here. Wheeeeeeee!!!!!
Crisp salad but I don't know anything about the herbs because all I taste in this salad is the dill. Dill, dill and more dill. It's a strong seasoning and should be used in moderation, key word being "moderation" but unfortunately too much has been used here. I'm not even sure what kind of dressing the salad has or even what kinds of greens were used because all I taste is the dill. The one thing I do enjoy about this salad is the use of grits as croutons, which gives the croutons that extra bite that the Mr and I love. I think I might have to use that idea the next time I make a salad.
Crispy pork, homemade biscuits, cole slaw
The biscuits are deceivingly light with a nice crunch on the outside, the pork is moist but also has a nice crunch from the frying. I like the topping of a fried grits and some onions for both texture and flavour. A light dip in the mustard and they're the perfect little bite-size snacks. The only downside of these sliders is that they're on the greasy side - you're left with little puddles of oil on the plate from each slider. Grease city! The coleslaw is just that - coleslaw with some marinated veggies on top.
Don't be mistaken, this is a great drinking hole, nay, drinking establishment since it's too beautiful to be called a hole. The drinks are deadly, the live band is great, the bartenders will put on a show and the sliders were surprisingly good. Just stay away from the salads and you'll be alright. Bon appetite!
Oinks:
- Serves some stiff drinks
- Live bands on certain nights
- Food is pretty good - again, avoid the salad!
- Extensive bar menu
- On the pricier side
- Service is bit stuck up/snooty
