Mr. Piglet and I are wandering the Saturday Winter Farmer's Market and just when we think we're at the end, we turn a corner and there's another row of stalls! Huzzah! This thing is much larger than we thought! And right at the end of this hidden row is a VW van with pink pigs painted on the side and the top popped up. OMG. I've finally hit the mother load. I've always wanted to eat from this food van but the line ups were always WAY too long. I'm so excited!
Only one person in front of us! Excellent... The smell of bacon permeates through the cold air and even though we've already eaten a meal, I'm getting hungry again. This will be the third brunch for Mr. Piglet but he doesn't care. We order and 10 minutes later, we get our food...
Piggy & Spice - $12

Do you see the size of this thing??? Do you see how much bacon there is!!!??? I've died and gone to bacon heaven... This thing is huge (that's what she said) - lots of jerk chicken, piles of cheese, hunks of avocado and a good helping of greens on top. The star is the perfectly cooked, crunchy, thick cut bacon. LOVE! They said it was a 3 on a level of 5 for spiciness but I'd say this was more like 1 or 2 - it could use some hot sauce but the jerk spice blend is still good despite not being spicy enough. Overall, it was hearty, delicious and totally worth the $12. Mr. Piglet also pointed out that this was really well wrapped so it doesn't fall apart, nothing fell out and there were no drippings - it's the small things that really make this over the top.
Hair of the Hog - $2
One bite and I'm drunk. This thing has so much bourbon in it! Holy cow! This isn't really a brownie per se, more like a thick chocolate pudding because all of the moisture in the sauce so there wasn't much cakiness left. Lots of bourbon, lots of bacon, lots of caramel, lots of chocolate and definitely lots of fun. Not for the kiddies but if you're a bourbon lover, you wouldn't want to share anyways. I thought the portion size was a bit small but because the flavours are so concentrated, the small piece was more than enough for Mr and me. This hog is not shy, it declares its intentions. Yum!
Mr and I have already picked our next meal at this food van (Pig LT here we come!), so we definitely recommend it to others. Excellent portion size, tasty eats, friendly service - what more can you ask for?? Bon appetite!
